Becoming Spiritually Aggressive

Becoming Spiritually Aggressive

—by Theodore H Epp
(Founder Back to the Bible)

1 Corinthians 9:24-27;

Hebrews 12:1-4

Canaan, the Promised Land for the Israelites, is not a type of heaven as some have thought and as some hymns portray it.

Rather it is a type of the Christian's battle against sin and his victory over it as he seeks to live for the Lord. Canaan was a scene of conflict, not of complete peace and rest as heaven will be.

The nations in Canaan become types of the principalities and powers we read about in Ephesians 6:12, where the Apostle Paul tells us, "We wrestle not against flesh and blood, but against principalities, against powers, against the rulers of the darkness of this world, against spiritual wickedness in high places."

When Joshua led the people of Israel into Canaan, he and they not only had to overcome the human leaders and their armies in the land of promise, but also the evil spiritual forces under the direction of satan who were the actual rulers of these heathen kings.

I have drawn more spiritual lessons for myself and the Back to the Bible broadcast from Joshua's experiences and the book of Joshua and its New Testament counterpart, Ephesians, than from any other person or portions in the Bible.

We as believers are warned to put on the whole armor of God, according to the book of Ephesians, if we are going to enter victoriously into spiritual warfare against the powers of Satan.

If we are to avoid a stalemate in our Christian lives, an experience similar to Israel's 40 years in the desert, we will have to choose to become spiritually aggressive.

"I press toward the mark for the prize of the high calling of God in Christ Jesus" (Phil. 3:14).

The Salvation Boat

The Salvation Boat
By Dr. Woodrow Kroll

Boats have played an important role in God’s plan of salvation through the centuries.  Genesis 6 tells of Noah’s enormous ark (450 feet long, 45 feet high and 75 feet wide), which God used to save eight members of the human race during the flood that overwhelmed the world.

Exodus 2 describes a much smaller boat- actually no more than a reed basket covered with pitch to make it waterproof.  But it played an important role in saving the life of baby Moses, whom God used as an adult to bind together a ragtag group of people into the nation of Israel.  And out of this nation came Jesus, the Messiah and Savior.

Jesus Himself is also compared with a boat.  In his first epistle, Peter reminds his readers of the ark that saved eight people from the flood.  Then he says, “There is also an antitype which now saves us, namely baptism (not the removal of the filth of the flesh ([i.e., not the literal physical baptism] but the answer of a good conscience toward God), through the resurrection of Jesus Christ” (1 Peter 3:21).
We are baptized (literally “put” or “placed”) into Christ at the time of our salvation.  He becomes our boat.  Just as the ark saved Noah and his family from the wrath of flood and the basket=boat saved Moses from certain death in the Nile, so Christ offers us a place of safety from the wrath that God will someday pour out on sin (Romans 5:9-10; Revelation 6:17).

The question you need to ask yourself is, “Am I in the boat or am I in the water?”  Have you received Christ as your Savior?  Will you be saved from God’s wrath to come because you are safely “in Christ Jesus”?  Only Jesus can keep you afloat when troubled waters come.  Trust Him as your Savior and begin to enjoy new life in God’s ark of salvation

“When the water threatens to overwhelm you, the only safe place is in the boat.”

Confident Living June 2012 - Avail These Spl. Offer Before Stock Ends

EXPRESSIONS:
With Love, from a daughter

Pic. Credit. sxc.hu
Ever since the days when I was small….
and life was big,
Ever since I can remember…
Having you for a father
has meant so much to me
It meant having a perfect hero…
back when I believed in HEROS
And it means even more than that now,
now that I can see you as a person,
very real and down to earth,
A person I can share with and be close too…
that I will believe in always..
I know I can count on
having your advice and understanding
not that I expect you to solve my every problem.
But I value your ideas and opinions
And I know you don’t expect me
to agree with you in every situation.
You let me be my own person,
WHAT REALLY MATTERS
IS THE WAY YOU TAKE
THE TIME TO TALK
AND LISTEN
But then it seems you’re never too busy
to take some time for me…
to share a laugh over the laughter, latest joke.
To show me that you care…
that I’m important to you
that I have you on my side.
Somehow, simply knowing that
makes me want to do big things,
and makes me feel I can.
So when I succeed at any thing.
I hope you realize.
a part of that success belongs to you…
Because I had your support behind me
Because I had your inspiration leading me on.
Because all along I had you to pat me on the back
And to say just the right thing, add just the right touch,
the way that only you could do.
No wonder having you around
Makes anything good seem even better.
And you don’t know, how many other times I turn to you
Simply by remembering something you once said
By picturing the kindness of your smile
By imagining the comfort of your arms around me…
By knowing you so well…
and knowing you’d do anything for me.
You’ll probably say that everything you’ve done
is just part of being a father,
But that’s not true.
It’s part of being you,
And you are NOT JUST ANY FATHER
YOU ARE VERY SPECIAL,
IN THE WAY YOU GIVE SO MUCH…
SOMEHOW, I FEEL A LITTLE SPECIAL TOO…
JUST BECAUSE I A M YOUR DAUGHTER,
BECAUSE I’VE HAD SO MANY WONDERFUL THINGS
THAT NOT EVERYONE CAN HAVE.
BECAUSE… EVER SINCE I CAN REMEMBER
I’VE HAD YOU… AND ALL YOUR LOVE.
